Bodmin Farmhouse re-pointed in a blended sand and Lime mortar.
The cement and Lime was removed by hand and a subtle colour was chosen to complement the existing stonework.
In addition the gable elevation had this sympathetic approach, as well as patch pointing on the brick chimney.

A Lime bag-rub plaster finish is used to show off a walls natural stone and undulations. It is a happy compromise when stonework isn’t quite good enough to Lime point.
This Lime bag-rub in Looe, Cornwall saw us remove 2 coats of cement render to expose the stonework and access the condition before a decision was made to render or re-point.
Low level damp was visible inside the property so removal of the cement based render was essential in allowing the walls longevity and ability to breath. Once de-clad a decision was made to bag rub this elevation. As you can see from the gallery pictures below a brick doorway and beautiful granite lintel were exposed and these features were picked out.
A 4-coat breathable Lime paint will be applied in a colour that matches the rest of the render on the property.

In the Historic village of Grampound-With-Creed in Cornwall this Grade II Listed Heritage building saw us remove the existing cement render and cement/Lime pointing.
Built of cob from first floor up and stone we carefully set out removing this impervious material.
Once the cladding was removed we could have a better understanding of the potential repairs to this heritage building. A few minor repairs we introduced with cob bricks and a Lime mortar.
Originally this historic building in Cornwall was three cottages and the remains of these could be seen. Across the property there were tell tell signs that prove this. If you look at the low level stonework you can see the varying types of stones where the windows were originally placed.
In addition to the 3-coat Lime render we exposed high level stonework which was completely repointed using a sympathetic Lime mortar.
This was, for all of the team, a truly fascinating project and steeped in history.
