Breathability, the process of allowing moisture to enter the substrate but also allowing it to escape again, is a must when it comes to traditionally built structures and using breathable renders is one way to limit moisture build up within the walls.
Along with our traditional Lime Applications in Cornwall, we also offer an Insulating Lime render application which is designed to reduce the loss of thermal properties in solid traditionally built walls in Cornwall.
Insulating Lime render is a breathable material that is designed to improve the thermal performance of solid walled masonry and maintain the breathability of the structure. This type of Lime render meets the Part L1B legislation requirements for improving the thermal performance of the wall, whilst maintaining its breathability, not distorting the character of the building or increasing the risk of long-term deterioration of the building fabric. With a K-value (a measure of the thermal conductivity of a material) of 0.12, Insulating Lime render significantly outperforms similar systems in terms of both performance and cost. A 50mm application will improve the U-value (the rate of transfer of heat through a structure, divided by the difference in temperature across that structure) of a solid wall by 50% or more, significantly reducing heat loss.
