Lime Bag Rub Looe Cornwall

A Lime bag-rub plaster finish is used to show off a walls natural stone and undulations.  It is a happy compromise when stonework isn’t quite good enough to Lime point.

Lime Bag Rub Looe

This Lime bag-rub in Looe, Cornwall saw us remove 2 coats of cement render to expose the stonework and access the condition before a decision was made to render or re-point.

Lime Bag Rub Looe

Low level damp was visible inside the property so removal of the cement based render was essential in allowing the walls longevity and ability to breath. Once de-clad a decision was made to bag rub this elevation. As you can see from the gallery pictures below a brick doorway and beautiful granite lintel were exposed and these features were picked out.

A 4-coat breathable Lime paint will be applied in a colour that matches the rest of the render on the property.

Lime Render Grampound

In the Historic village of Grampound-With-Creed in Cornwall this Grade II Listed Heritage building saw us remove the existing cement render and cement/Lime pointing.

Lime render Grampound

Built of cob from first floor up and stone we carefully set out removing this impervious material.

Once the cladding was removed we could have a better understanding of the potential repairs to this heritage building. A few minor repairs we introduced with cob bricks and a Lime mortar.

Lime Render Grampound

Originally this historic building in Cornwall was three cottages and the remains of these could be seen.  Across the property there were tell tell signs that prove this. If you look at the low level stonework you can see the varying types of stones where the windows were originally placed.

Lime Render Grampound

In addition to the 3-coat Lime render we exposed high level stonework which was completely repointed using a sympathetic Lime mortar.

This was, for all of the team, a truly fascinating project and steeped in history.

Lime Render Truro Cornwall

This Grade II Listed cob cottage in Truro, Cornwall saw Leslie Cornell Building Restoration Ltd act as agents in the application for Listed Building Consent – providing architectural drawings, material specifications/methods and constant liaising with Cornwall Council to meet specific requirements in this Conservation Area.

Lime Render Truro Cornwall

In stages this cob cottage has seen the removal of cement, lime wash and many applications of non-breathable paint systems.

On this project we removed the cement render on the front elevation and repaired any small holes in the cob using Lime.

Lime Render Truro Cornwall

In keeping with the surrounding cob properties and characterful natural undulations of this cob cottage we introduced a 3-coat Lime render in Truro and it is currently drying before a breathable paint system is applied.

As a staged project our next visit will see the gable of the property have the same sympathetic Lime applications as the front elevation.

Lime Rendering Chapels St Columb

These Grade 2 Listed, Victorian Memorial Chapels in Cornwall were constructed in 1856, and are situated in the ‘new’ cemetery of St Columb Major in Cornwall.

Lime Rendering Chapels St Columb

The towns’ original cemetery, next to the church, could not accommodate further internments, so an additional resting place was established. The North and South chapels were constructed and used as mortuary chapels.

Lime Rendering Chapels St Columb

The internal Lime plasters to the porches [of both chapels] were in a state of disrepair and St Columb Town Council instructed us to replace them. Using an appropriate Natural Hydraulic Lime / sand mortar, a 3–coat Lime render was re-introduced to this project in Cornwall.
