What is Mineral Paint?
Mineral Paint contains a liquid binder (more commonly known as water glass) and colour powder. The permeability for water vapour of Mineral Paint is the same as that of the substrate, so maintaining breathability of the structure.
Upon application Mineral Paint does not form a layer, but permanently bonds to the substrate resulting in a very durable connection. With this connection and the water glass being highly resistant to UV light, Mineral Paint has an extraordinarily high life span.
What is Breathable Paint?
This type of paint system has minimal binder, making it breathable.
Breathable Paint is almost like a Lime Wash, but gives better coverage and fills any cracks. If used for exterior painting re-application needs to take place every 4 years.
Breathable and Mineral Paints are environmentally friendly, as they are a non-toxic application.
Here, at Leslie Cornell Building Restoration Ltd, we highly recommend the use of these breathable paint systems in the preservation of Historic Buildings in Cornwall.
