We, Leslie Cornell Building Restoration Ltd, really are fortunate to get to work on some wonderful Historic Buildings!

We understand the importance of Cornwall’s Built Heritage, and we are passionate about sympathetically Conserving, Preserving and Restoring all Historic Buildings.

One of our more recent projects was the full restoration of a Grade II Listed Building located within a Truro Conservation Area.

Below is a picture of the external of the property before we began our Restoration Works:

This Listed Building was originally constructed with stone and cob, and the restoration works we undertook included:

• Window Restoration Cornwall

Other external works included:

• The installation of Land Drainage Systems Cornwall
• The installation of Natural Slate Paving Cornwall

And our Works didn’t end there! We were also engaged in restoring the interior of the property.

Due to the age of this Cottage, one of its interesting features was a Coffin Hatch.

The cottage was originally built with a steep and narrow staircase and this would have made it impossible for a coffin to be removed from an upstairs room. Therefore, a hole was specially cut into the ceiling and a hatch installed to cover it.

Often, when a person died, they were placed in an open coffin so family and friends could pay their last respects. When it was time for the funeral the hatch was lifted, leaving a hole through which the coffin was lowered. This was one of the aspects we were asked to restore.
