Pointing is the term given to the application that is introduced to act as a bedding between the stone or bricks used to build your walls. In many older buildings or boundary walls the mortar used to lay the stone or brick will consist of Lime and sand.
As well as the mortar acting as a bedding between the stones or bricks, it is also there to perform other functions:
- It prevents water penetration through the joints, but it also allows the wall materials to breath and drain
- It is a flexible application that allows the movement and settlement of the building
