In our final blog of 2018 (Historic Building Restoration Specialists – 2018 Highlights) we mentioned that our first project for this year, as Principal Contractors, was to bring life back into this non-inhabitable Grade II Listed 17th Century dwelling in Cornwall.
This Historic Restoration in Cornwall is now well underway and has gained a lot of interest from numerous Heritage, Ecological and Environmental organisations in Cornwall. So far site visits have been undertaken by Cornwall Archaeological Unit, Historic Environment – Cornwall Council and Cornwall Environmental Consultants Ltd.
Our Listed Building Restoration project in Cornwall commenced with the erection of a precisely designed scaffolding structure, by M and M Scaffolding (Cornwall) Ltd, that included a temporary roof.
The next stage of the project was the careful removal of the existing roofing slates, by MAR Roofing Services, to be stored for re-instatement at a later date. Hence the need for a temporary roof!
So far, this project has seen us, Leslie Cornell Building Restoration Ltd, undertake the following Historic Restoration in Cornwall works:
- Removal of existing pointing applications
- Removal of existing render applications
- Commencement of chimney repairs and rebuilds
- Commencement of Cob repairs
- Wall head stabilisation
- Fireplace stone rebuild
- Rebuild of a Clome oven stack
Whilst in the process of carrying out the above works we uncovered an historic Timber Mullion Window. It is thought that this window dates back to the 17th or early 18th century and it is rare to find a surviving ‘in situ’ Mullion Window in Cornwall.
Our works continue in earnest, and we will bring you more updates as our Listed Building in Cornwall project continues.
