We, Leslie Cornell Building Restoration Ltd, have completed numerous Historic Building Restoration in Cornwall projects where we have uncovered, repaired or replaced stone, timber and brick lintels.
A lintel is a structural horizontal block that is found over openings, such as windows, doors, fireplaces, etc., to take the load of the wall above it and transfer the load into the surrounding walls, thus providing support for the structure.
The most common types of lintels found in historic buildings in Cornwall are:
This type of lintel is more commonly found in stone masonry structures and is made of, usually local, stone. Most types of the stone material used can resist erosion from moisture.
This type of lintel is more commonly found in cob and stone buildings as they were the most effective, could easily be cut to size on site and are more thermally efficient.
This type of lintel is usually used on smaller openings where the load of the wall is lighter. They can be reinforced if required.
Over time historic lintels can start to fail, and this is where we can help you. If you have a Lintel Repair or Replacement in Cornwall project that you would like to discuss, please Contact us.
